We asked who you knew that has worked hard for the local community? We asked for Individuals, groups and organisation that have volunteered their time to raise money for charity? The Cat wants to say thank you for YOU, to those un-sung heroes. Nominations for the 2012 awards closed on 13th January 2012 with all nominations passed onto the independant judges. All nominees have now been assessed by the judging panel and Finalists have now been selected. The winners per 'Cat'egory will be announced on February 25th 2012 at the awards ceremony and will be presented with an award. |

Tickets are £20 p/p and includes reception drinks on arrival, 3 course meal and an evening of entertaiment and disco.

Long Service to the Community Award
Keith Cafferty
Keith was an independent councillor for Nantwich. He worked for many years to help solve and improve local issues. He introduced Nantwich Fun Day and the St Georges Day celebrations. Keith was nominated for ‘acknowledgement for all the work that he did for the town over the years.’
Irene Edwards & family
Over the course of 20 years, Irene raised over £150,000 for The Christies Hospital. She organised annual variety shows at The Lyceum in Crewe. Irene sadly lost her own fight with cancer earlier this year. Her family continue to raise money in her memory.
Ray Stafford
Know locally as ‘The Duck Man’, Ray has raised over £100,000 for local charities by organising plastic duck races. Over the years Ray has supported and acted as chairman for the local Marie Curie nurses. Ray said “I’ve always believed in giving up my time freely which I’ll continue to do for as long as I can.”
Ann Aspinall
Ann organises turn Nantwich Pink in aid of Cancer Research. Her events are always well attended and it seems that with her encouragement, the town raises money for a good cause and gets a little bit pinker each year.
Karen Boughey
Karen from Crewe, tragically lost a son to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. Since his death, she continues to raise money and awareness of this condition.
The Seahorse Swimming Club
The Seahorse Swimming Club caters for people with disabilities at Crewe baths. They have raised £1,853 during a sponsored swim. The money went towards a light weight wheel chair for a Seahorse member called Nathan Hill. Club secretary is Gareth Roberts.
Volunteer of the year Award
Paul Boskett
Paul has been nominated for many years of services to Scouting and Youth work in Cheshire. Paul from Haslington, works tirelessly to give youngsters in South Cheshire a voice.
Olwyn Payton
Olwyn dedicates much of her spare time to the Wingate Centre in Wrenbury, Richmond Village in Nantwich and the R.S.P.C.A. She also works with schools to promote healthy eating, and recently helped kickstart a healthy eating breakfast club at Pebble Brook Primary School in Crewe.
Paul Simpson
Paul has spent many years volunteering for the Family History Society, Nantwich Group organising speakers and meetings. He also dedicates his time in volunteering for a local community radio station for the area and has been involved in community radio since 1993.
Achievement of the year
Jake Lynch
Jake is 17 years old. He has lived with autism all of his life, as well as many other disablities and although he has struggled at school he has recently started 6th form and is studying for his A levels. Jake is also a budding writer and his first book ‘The Zirisian Princess’ was published earlier this year.
Jimmy Quinn
Manager of Nantwich Town Football Club, Jimmy helped the team reach the First Round of the F.A. Cup in 127 years.
Emma Timmis
In 2011, Emma ran and completed 60 marathons in 60 days. No woman has ever achieved this. This event took place in South Africa along the Freedom Trail. Emma works as an RSPCA inspector and was raising money for Stapley Grange Wildlife Centre and Cattery in Nantwich.
Young Persons Community Award
James Bell
Aged 13, James saw off tough competition and won the ‘Young Guitarist of The Year’ in 2011. James has a busking licence for Nantwich and performed at last years ‘Arts Festival’ and the well known Nantwich ‘Jazz and Blues’ Festival.
Joe & Max Haywood
Whilst pupils at Wistaston Church Lane Primary School Joe and Max Haywood raised £501 for EdUKaid which helps children in Africa to get a better education. The young brothers climbed the three highest peaks in the UK in three weekends.
All volunteer as fire cadets. They do an incredible job in local fundraising for charities giving up a lot of their time to do so and are a credit to both themselves and the community. Nominated by their teacher, Mr O’Neill from Malbank he said “I particularly think their recognition is worthwhile generally as it puts into perspective that our youth are not all the idle hoodies that the media portray them as, which as a teacher I can vouch first hand is a label most don’t deserve”
